What Does it Mean? Chant: What is it this life? Is it what we seek? Do we still believe? Now I’ve been thinking, I’ve been dreaming, I’ve been seeing it through From the cradle to the edge of the grave All the wonders of the world, all the joy to be found Is it something that we still need to save? And is it something we need? Something we should believe? What is the world today, and tell me, what does it mean? What should we be (when we have) all that we need? Is this what they mean when they say free What do we do (when we don’t know) where that leads? And what does it mean for you and me? Homes and cars and phones and clothes, the things they say will surely make us thrive In a world where no one worries anymore that all they have to do is survive I’ve been listening to the talkers, I’ve been staring in space I’ve been wondering if I need to excel All the things that people tell me, well it doesn’t seem straight But then we all got our stories to sell So, tell me what does it mean? When we say that we dream? Striving to be the one, but tell me, what does that mean? What are we now (that we have) everything that we need? Is this what they mean when they say free Are we what we thought we’d be when we believed? And what does that mean for you and me? What does it mean?

The Waters 05:03
The Waters Where are my children? Where are my friends? Where are the tears here at the end? Once there was laughter and a strong belief I walk now in shadows seeking relief Oh, the waters How they rise Oh, the waters How they rise What of the promise? What of the lies? Where we all flourish; where we all die? We once stood for something, tall in the world’s eye Now it’s about needles and a junkie’s cry Oh, the waters How they rise Oh, the waters To the sky I don’t want to be free I just want to believe The town is dying, as is the past Like the promises not meant to last But people remember, we cry to the lord In churches now empty sown with discord Oh, the waters How they rise Oh, the waters As I cry

What’s in it For Me? Oh, I can hear you talking I hear the words you say How you’re so excited How the world will change, how I’ll soon be free But what I need to know is What’s in it for me? Can you tell me brother; tell me sister too All these pretty words-what they mean to you? I can see you smiling; playing to the band, but In these plans you’re making, in the bones you’re breaking Tell me will I see- what’s in it for me? Yeah, I can tell you’re angry You want the world to change It’s a time for action But before you holler and before you shout Think about who matters And what’s in it for me Won’t you tell me brother, tell me sister too All these angry words-what they mean to you? Can it really matter when you got no plan? Is the work you give me meant to set me free? But what I got to know is- what’s in it for me? I can see it people, Out across the land All the crying faces Shouting out to warn me, demanding of my time That I’ll come to see What’ll happen to me! Won’t you tell me brother, tell me sister, too All these tangled words-what they mean to you? The world is full of liars Trying to steal my time But I refuse to listen, I won’t even try Unless it’s clear to see What’s in it for me?

A Mother’s Arms The sun is out today We’ll take a drive and find a place to play Far away from angry cries It won’t be like this long Let’s sing our favorite song It’s time to dry those tears for you’ll never be alone When your mother’s arms are home Sometimes the world ain’t right People shout and people fight But bruises fade away We’ll find a place to stay, just maybe not today So let me see you smile, cause you’ll never be alone When your mother’s arms are home A mother’s love is strong Strong enough to help us carry on The sun is out today I know God’s watching and he’ll help us find a way To get us through the day So pull yourself in tight and feel the morning light Don’t you worry child, for you’ll never be alone When your mother’s arms are home. The sun is out today

How Does It Feel? It was only a moment, just a quick little look You were sure it was nothing, and the car barely shook Now you just sit there with nothing to say About the mother and child after driving away So why are you crying if it seems so unreal? As the judge reads the charges, tell me how does it feel? It was only a little, every once in a while It wasn’t a problem, merely going in style But the money you’d taken, meant to cover her bills Left your own mother dying after you sold her pills So why are you crying if it seems so unreal As the judge set your bail, tell me how does it feel? People don’t listen; they don’t even try They’ve got all the answers when you ask them why But after it’s over, after time slips away They stare at the floor with nothing to say She always would argue and you always would yell You drink and you’d fight and wish she’d go to hell Only that night you struck her and pulled out a gun She screamed when you killed her, one shot and done But now that you’re sober, it seems all too real As you’re rotting in prison, tell me how does it feel? So how does it feel?

In the Rain 05:05
In the Rain (In the rain) Running till your skin is soaked (In the snow) Angels all around (In the light) Swimming till the sun goes down (In the dark) gazing at the stars All we ever wanted was a place to play Life was just a melody of day to day I can see the two of us as the cars go by Now it’s just a memory of you and I (In the rain) Splashing in the flooded streets (In the snow) Forts in every yard (In the light) Riding down a country road (In the dark) Waiting to be scared (In the rain) stuck inside the same old room (In the snow) Bundled from the cold (In the light) Building castles in the sand (In the dark) Howling at the moon (In the rain) laughing at our ruined hair (In the snow) Kissing frozen lips (In the light) Working on the perfect tan (In the dark) Laying very still All we ever wanted was a place to be Life was just a symphony of you and me I can see the two of us standing side by side Smiling in the pictures of you and I In the rain

Settle Down 06:33
Settle Down Roll on by, as the sun lights the sky Slide on through if it feels good to you Some moves are easy; others go slow But movement only matters if there’s somewhere to go Time to settle down The road grows cold and the wheel takes your hand To someplace where your feet trace the sand But tides like to carry the soft sand away And the rocks left will cut you the longer you stay Just need to settle down There’s no going back, there’s no coming around But you can’t keep running, running yourself down The night sky shines as the time rolls away And you still yearn to find a warm place to stay You want to live easy no matter how you roll But it hard to find tomorrow when there’s no place to go You can’t seem to settle down

After Me Babe (You’ll Never Love Again) The sun is shining, shining down on me And it always will be shining down on me You see, some are special, but not like me Cause I’m the one you really need Ride the love train, but it ain’t free Got to say you love me while on your knees I love to hear you tell me: pretty please Cause after me, babe, you’ll never love again The world’s full of losers with little plans Wannabee lovers with tiny hands A man like me don’t come cheap I’m very discerning about where I sleep Ride the love train, but it ain’t free Got to say you love me while on your knees I love to hear you tell me: pretty please Cause after me, babe, you’ll never love again People love to tell you that they know How the world works; how it goes Who you need to love; who you need to please And you will love me And you will see After me, babe, you’ll never love again You might think there’s someone else Someone to love you wearing bells But you’re a fool to think that’s true Cause after me no one else will do Ride the love train, but it ain’t free Got to say you love me while on your knees I love to hear you beg me: pretty please Cause after me, babe, you’ll never love again

Say a Prayer 05:02
Say a Prayer Standing in the corner ain’t easy Tearing at the flesh on your arm Say a prayer cause you know it ain’t easy Say a prayer though you don’t give a damn You know they’re selling your sorrow; you know they’re selling your soul You know there’s nothing to save you as you come and you go Can you hear me? Waiting for the clock to turn over Waiting for the high to kick in Say a prayer cause you won’t last an hour Say a prayer though you don’t give a damn They say it’s God’s special magic; they say it’s life in your hand Because it makes you feel precious, you don’t want it to end Are you with me? Friend? Why do you owe us? Why do we care? Why do we owe you? Why should you care? Somewhere out there someone is crying Crying for the cycle to end Say a prayer cause you know they are dying Say a prayer thought it won’t change a thing You say you just want your freedom You want to be left alone But then you turn to your demons And you never come home Still with me? What do we owe you? Why should we care? What do you owe us? Why should you care? All that’s ever left is the music All that’s ever left’s in your head Say a prayer that you hope they rest easy Say a prayer though it won’t change a thing

This Beautiful Disease Deep in the cage that defines where you are, hiding your face from the light of the stars Where is the smile that we all used to know, what of the pain that the smile didn’t show? Is it what you believe? Is it what sets you free? This beautiful disease The thing that deceives (you, me, us, them) Whatever happened to the words of your song, what did you do when you found they were gone? How can the notes sound so strange to your ears, to a song that you sang to yourself through the years? Is it what you believe? Is it what sets you free? This beautiful disease The thing that deceives (you, me, us, them) Come with me, let us dance; close together, a sweet romance. Love and beauty, grace, and charm; the two of us, arm in arm Life will always be so sweet, a life to love, a life to keep You and me, like the sun; we will always be as one Time is the cudgel that murders us all, takes all our moments, the big and the small What once was vital and sure always fades; all that was light now lingers in shade Is it what you believe? Is it what sets you free? This beautiful disease The thing that deceives (you, me, us, them) Come with me, let us dance; close together, a sweet romance. Love and beauty, grace, and charm; the two of us, arm in arm Life will always be so sweet, a life to love, a life to keep You and me, like the sun; we will always be as one

Mother Earth Child Sitting in the darkness, alone within her room Still beside the window, as silent as a tomb She dreams of life beyond the water, and seeks her fame among the stars She’s longing for a new adventure She steers her way with the power in her hands To the people that she meets, with a heart of hidden beats That drives her ship across the waters, and sails it deep into the stars Far away from this world she flies What are we if not our dreams? Beyond the color of our eyes? Boxed inside a world that screams We long for something different looking out into those distant skies (We dream) Fingers move in tandem, eyes from side to side Jumps from place to moment, deep within the sky She finds her world below the water, and out beyond the distant stars Where character is what defines you She meets her match, and there they stand To find a hero’s place, in these far and distant lands That takes them past their broken world’s borders, and wings them to another world’s stars There they’ll find their own tomorrow (away) Away from this troubled world of ours Away from this angry world of ours Away from this distant world of ours My dear sweet Mother Earth Child

Yes Dear 05:09
Yes, Dear Come, dear, fall in my arms, let me long for The light that I long to see Shine dear, across all the time that had kept me from your smile And dear, call me and I will appear- to take you along (with me) And we’ll find the place where we both can belong My dear, recall all the joy of our lives, dear Listen as I let my love call To where you can reach out and find me so near And yes, call me and know that I hear (you calling and drawing me near) And you’ll feel my heart as I come to your side Oh, dear, look at the lives that we leave here That take up the joys that we see dear Shining so bright when we look in their eyes Life runs away And darkens the day But that’s only life For us, there’s always… Time, dear, to sing all the songs that we love dear When we were so young and in love dear As the arc of our lives gave us so much to dream of Like time dear, to sing all the songs that we loved dear When we were so young and in love dear As life gave us so much to sing and dream of

Better Than Being Alone Every morning, she kicks me out of bed! Says some things that are better left unsaid She uses my toothbrush And doesn’t rinse it out. Sometimes I wonder What this love is all about It ain’t much of a home, But it’s better than being alone. She burns my breakfast, tells me that’s too bad Life is tough So don’t you get too mad She’s rarely happy with the pretty words I say, (She says) people love to talk But it’s just a game they play It ain’t much of a home, But it’s better than being alone. But when she loves me, when the love is burning hot It doesn’t matter what is true and what is not. She trashes my body and messes up my mind It might not be pretty But it’s the best that I can find Every morning, she kicks me out of bed. I get up on shaky legs Thank God that I ain’t dead. There are days when my heart is filled with doubt But there’s something about that woman That really knocks me out! It ain’t much of a home, But it’s better than being alone.

Everybody Knows Oh, there you go… away But did we see which way? Ooh, what did you say? Today? Did it matter anyway? Everybody dreams, but dreams tend to fade away Everybody hides, hides away, where we all can see Ah, what we see… is often What we want to see The rest simply falls away… decays Into another day Everybody says it’s got to be this way But everybody knows… it isn’t so Sit me down and feed me schemes—of stories, myths, and dreams I won’t ask if all that’s true today, tomorrow, through joy and sorrow for me… or you. Oh, in the end, it’s just the end Of another day Days come and go… and in the end It’s all we ever know Everybody says it’s got to be this way But everybody knows… it isn’t so

Learn to Love Again People say they love you and say it’s from the heart They love to pull you closer, then tear you all apart (But you see) Love is still around you, the thing we need to share You got to let them know that it’s still there Nothing’s ever easy, worlds they fall apart People get too angry and forget what’s in their hearts (But you know) Love will always find you, push right through the pain People get together, we got to learn to love again We tell the young it’s easy When we know that isn’t true Love you got to work for, everyday So it works for me and you The world is what we’re given, there’s nowhere else to go People come together, let everybody know (That) Love is still the answer, love’s where we begin People come together, we got to learn to love again

Baby Baby 04:09
Baby Baby Baby, baby, why you look so sad? Feeling crazy and breaking bad Life has left you, pushed you to the side Broke your heart and made you cry Baby, baby, take my hand We’ll go looking for that promised land Where life is good, where life is sweet Where every day is like a special treat Sure it can fool ya, make you sigh You end up thinking that it’s all just a lie Just one long goodbye You see One minute they need you, and in the next they don’t They’ll do anything to help, but then they won’t The foolish keep on struggling And the smart are pulled apart The gawkers start collecting To see what’s in your heart I can tell you, life is hard Leaves you broken, torn, and scarred But you can’t worry, let it get you down Cause what goes, always comes around Baby, baby, don’t wear that crown Or bare your soul in this distant town Life ain’t always what it seems But that don’t mean you can’t have your dreams I can tell ya what to do But in the end, we all know it’s up to you Cause you know what’s true
